Outlook Integration

smsPULSE now integrates with Microsoft Outlook using OMS (Outlook Mobile Services). This is in addition to current services provided via email using Microsoft Exchange integration, and the smsPULSE LDAP service.

Requirements
  1. The smsPULSE server must be able to run a secure connection over HTTP (HTTPS). If the server you are using does not yet have an SSL certificate you can obtain one for an annual charge from a variety of suppliers. If you need assistance in installing a certificate on your server please let us know. See here Database 'sms.HELP', View 'Help Documents', Document 'Enable SSL'
  2. Of course you will need to have Microsoft Outlook 2007 or 2010. Please note the OMS was removed from Office 2013.

Please note that the smsPULSE server does not have to be connected to the internet. The smsPULSE server needs to only be available on your Intranet. In such a configuration, you will need to be running smsPULSE MM for Windows or smsPULSE MM for Domino. If you wish to use the smsPULSE gateway options, a connection to the internet is required, at least outbound.
How to send SMS text messages from Microsoft Outlook

modemUsing Outlook with OMS and smsPULSE
To compose an SMS message, click the option below:

A pop-up appears. You may now address the message and type your text. Click on send and done - it's in the same hands of smsPULSE, making its way to the destination.

You may also use the facility in various features of outlook, in reminders for example.

There are few other functions that leverage the smsPULSE OMS integration, see your Outlook Help.

Configure Outlook to use smsPULSE with OMS.
This part of the process is simple but as an administrator you need to first consider the following:
  1. Should your users be registered for the service?
  2. If users should be registered, should they have a password?
  3. Where should users be registered? On the smsPULSE directory or the corporate directory?
  4. Should self registration on the smsPULSE directory be offered?
You can see how to set these rules in the Web UI users document Database 'sms.HELP', View 'Help Documents', Document 'Web UI users'

https://internal.smspulse.com/smspulse/smsack.nsf/outlook?openwebservice

Please note that the server must have been set for secure HTTP connection using SSL.

Clicking on "More Settings" reveals the ability to register on the smsPULSE internal directory, within your installation:

If all is good and the user can authenticate, click on "Test Account Settings". You should see this:

Please note that if you set your mobile number as alpha numeric value in smsPULSE (yes, you can do that), you will get the following message:

Inbound SMS Messages
Replying to messages sent from Outlook using the smsPULSE OMS service will reach:
  1. Your Outlook mail box
  2. Or your own cell phone
This depends on how the smsPULSE Server is configured.

If the smsPULSE MM server is installed replies reach the sender to their Outlook mail via one of the GSM devices attached or through a virtual number.
Please note that inbound messages are inspected by the smsROUTER and may be redirected to other destinations if the system administrator has created the appropriate rules, see Database 'sms.HELP', View 'Help Documents', Document 'smsROUTER'.
To learn how to set-up Router Rule see here Database 'sms.HELP', View 'Help Documents', Document 'Routing Rules'.

MMS with smsPULSE OMS
Although smsPULSE MM offers the ability to send and receive MMS, at this time we have decided not to offer the service through OMS. This decision may change in response to demand from clients.
